The Position

The Position

A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Roche.

Genentech seeks a talented and highly motivated Computational Biology Scientist to play an integral role in data-driven projects in close collaboration with our Immunology Discovery Department.

The Opportunity

You will focus on chronic inflammatory diseases and work closely with computational biologists in Genentech Computational Sciences and experimental scientists in Immunology Discovery. The goal is to design and analyze experiments applying (multi-)omics profiling in pre-clinical models and human samples to understand, interrupt, and reverse pathobiology. This work will directly inform novel therapeutic approaches and biomarker discovery.

You should enjoy hands-on data analysis and synthesis across data modalities (e.g. transcriptomic, epigenomic, genetic, histopathological, and clinical, although prior experience is not expected to cover all). The opportunity will involve routine assessment and deployment of best-in-class algorithms/statistical approaches/pipelines to answer motivating biological and clinical questions.

  • You will be a part of a dynamic research environment where we aim to translate our understanding of immunology to develop therapies and diagnostics, transforming clinical practice and benefiting patient health.

  • You will be a part of a team with broad computational and experimental expertise that values collaboration and mentorship.

  • You will have access to pre-clinical and clinical samples and datasets.

  • You will have access to state-of-the-art technologies, pioneering research, active seminar series with both internal and external speakers, and opportunities to publish/present externally.

Who you are

  • You have a PhD in Computational Biology, Immunology, Genomics, Genetics, or related fields.

  • You deeply understand the practice, principles, and challenges of statistical analysis and biological interpretation of omics data. You think critically about experimental design and practice reasoned skepticism.

  • You are adept in the use of Python and/or R for statistical analysis, data transformation, and data visualization.

  • You enjoy communicating science to and collaboratively interpreting data with teams with diverse scientific backgrounds.

  • You have a record of publications/preprints as (co-)first author demonstrating analysis of large-scale data to investigate biological problems.

Preferred

  • You have experience with single-cell assays (e.g. single-cell ATAC/RNA-seq, single-cell perturbation screens).

  • You have training in immunology and enthusiasm for learning more.
