Roles and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a seasoned Rotating Equipment Engineer within our Global Process Gases Product Line team located at our Head Quarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Houston, Texas or Buffalo, New York. This position requires approximately 25% domestic / global travel.

This role requires significant API (American Petroleum industry) experience with primary focus on providing technical leadership in the field of rotating equipment for process gases applications.

You will play a critical role in the development of competitive proposals for new business opportunities, working closely with the global process gases proposal team (including 3rd party engineering firms) in order to:

  • Develop a competitive basis for the rotating equipment scope and its integration into the process cycle, represent the Machinery Engineering function in project planning activities and prepare the functional execution strategy and manhours estimate aligned to the project scope, overall execution strategy and schedule in Pre-FEED and FEED phases.
  • Provide fit-for-purpose selection, optimization and standardization of various types of turbo-machinery equipment, ranging from process pumps to compressors (reciprocating, screw and centrifugal), steam and gas turbines along with their associated auxiliary systems.
  • Prepare technical specification packages for enquiry/purchase of critical rotating equipment and undertake technical evaluation, development and technical risk assessment (including development of associated risk mitigation plans) of supplier proposals.
  • Participate in kick-off and design review meetings with suppliers of purchased critical rotating equipment.
  • Liaise with the other engineering functions and coordinate cross-functional review of supplier drawings to facilitate integration of purchased equipment into the overall plant design compliant with Air Products engineering standards, supplier requirements and the project scope requirements.
  • Provide feedback to continuously improve the competitiveness of internal global engineering standards and work processes.

This role reports to the Global Machinery Center of Excellence.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Have specific technical knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, etc., with extensive experience in turbomachinery selection and applications. Expertise in machine design, vibration analysis, machine dynamics, and manufacturing methods would be advantageous especially related to Reciprocating and Centrifugal Compressor Design, Sound Analysis and Noise Abatement, Blowers, FD & ID fans, High Pressure/High Temperature Process Pumps, Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines, Properties of Gases, Safe Handling of Flammable, Toxic, and Oxidizing Gases, Dry Gas Seal Systems, and understanding of API Standards.
  • Demonstrable experience in the selection and application of critical rotating equipment during proposal development including process cycle integration.
  • Demonstrable experience in the specification, evaluation, engineering and inspection of rotating equipment for process gases applications in an EPC project environment.
  • Experience in both Specifying Engineer and Owner's Engineer roles would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience in application of internationally recognized codes (API, ASME, TEMA, IEC etc.)
  • Possess a dedicated and driven approach with a strong grasp of technical principals, excellent communication skills, ability to build strong working relationships, attention to detail and desire to continually learn, improve and contribute.
  • Have experience in providing technical leadership and supervision to project execution engineers.

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in mechanical engineering (Master's degree preferred but not required).
  • Min. 10 years of rotating equipment experience in Chemical, Petrochemical or Oil & Gas industries.
