Job Description

The Associate Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs Strategy supports Medical Directors and Franchise Leads to drive strategic and tactical excellence for assigned Otsuka assets. You will play a critical role for the execution and implementation of the Medical Affairs strategy by serving as a key member on relevant cross-functional teams, collaboration with regional affiliates and strong project management. This role will also serve as a subject matter expert in content creation, strategic and tactical discussions, and presentations with internal colleagues, as well as external experts and investigators. Other responsibilities include support of medical affairs research execution including but not limited to Phase IV studies and investigator-initiated trials.

Key Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Collaborating with Medical Affairs colleagues to develop and execute asset strategy and tactics with appropriate use of resources.
  • Assist with product and therapeutic area expert in both internal and external venues including the Medical Affairs sub-teams, and advisory boards / steering committees.
  • Support indication or franchise leads in providing medical input into all aspects of product development and promotion across the entire asset lifecycle.
  • Provide high quality scientific/clinical input and review of disease strategy plans, publications and externally facing educational materials. Part of this responsibility includes ensuring that medical content aligns with Medical Affairs strategy and communication goals.
  • This role may be involved in review of medical content of promotional materials for accuracy as part of the Promotional Review Committee.
  • Track priority Medical Affairs tactics and performance to goals/budget.
  • Develop data gap analyses and scientific communication priorities.
  • Conduct literature searches and prepare data summaries to support strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinate with commercial colleagues to provide training to commercial personnel, as needed.
  • Help provide direction for medical information specialists.
  • Support execution of Medical Affairs evidence generation activities, where applicable.
  • Develop educational objectives and review medical education grant requests, as needed.
  • Travel (approximately 20%).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD/DO, PharmD or PhD in life sciences required.
  • 4+ years' relevant experience in pharmaceutical industry Medical Affairs, of which at least 1 year is preferred in-house; expertise in CNS preferred (Experience in Clinical Development and/or Medical Communications Agencies may substitute for exceptional candidates)
  • Launch experience preferred.
  • Motivated and solution oriented with ability to work collaboratively across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead projects in a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including experience presenting to large groups.
  • Has full understanding of rules and regulations in pharma, which could have impact for the pharmaceutical industry. Can apply knowledge of guidelines and regulations to Medical Affairs activities.
  • Proficiency with computer productivity programs necessary to complete work requirements (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Medical Affairs systems including Veeva and KOL mapping solutions an asset

Minimum $160,530.00 - Maximum $240,005.00, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting salary for candidates hired to perform the work. Other elements may be used to determine actual salary such as the candidate's job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in role.
