Store Manager

Department: Retail

Supervisor: Retail District Director

BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for the management of a Goodwill store. Plan, coordinate, and direct the daily activities related to its successful operation and the achievement ensuring that the organization goals and objectives are accomplished. Provides leadership and ensures compliance to standards, financial performance, productivity and accountability.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for hiring, orientation, training, development, coaching, and termination of store staff. Ensures job descriptions are maintained and updated as well as establishes performance criteria. Promotes and models a team-based approach among staff and works across departments to support all aspects of employment at Goodwill. Ensures the proper coordination of clients assigned to the store. Communicates problems and concerns with Retail District Director (RDD) and/or Employee Relations representative.

Oversees and manages operations to ensure the following but not limited to:

Goodwill policies and procedures are communicated and enforced.

Sufficient daily inventory of raw donations to meet all store production goals.

Staff schedules in line with store staffing model and budgeting parameters.

Donor doors are open and able to accept donations during all business hours.

Appropriate and consistent use of SAP Warehouse Management System (WMS) to accurately account for and track containers by type of product (i.e. raw, processed, 2nd sort, etc.). Meet all system compliance standards.

Achievement of daily/weekly production and sales goals and utilization of SITW reports to continually monitor employees' production against goals; adjusts production and other operational practices while maintaining efficiencies to meet goals by following all established standards and guidelines.

Identify ways to improve backroom operations, front end retail sales and other aspects of operations and discuss with senior management.

Know and understand all key metrics related to the store; work with RDD on developing enhance data analysis skills.

Maximize used goods processing through the proper application of GKA established techniques, including:

Sorting

Preparing and pricing items for sale

Meeting and exceeding production goals on a consistent basis

Consistent rotation of all merchandise in accordance with store rotation schedule.

Submission of high quality donations to Ecommerce.

Adhere to all guidelines for New Goods inventory tracking and management.

Oversees all visual merchandising, cleanliness and organization of the sales floor to promote an attractive and convenient layout; ensures appropriate and timely use of all branded marketing materials and signage. This includes but is not limited to:

Maintain odor control of store.

Cash registers and rest rooms are in proper working order.

Maintain appearance of all areas of building exterior and landscape.

Maintain processing area appearance, housekeeping and work environment.

Identify structural concerns to discuss with the landlord and notify facilities team of all repairs and maintenance needs of the facility.

Ensures that all paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely fashion to include, but not be limited to: new hire intake packet; payroll and production records, audit forms; payroll status and termination paperwork; and performance appraisals, etc.

Serves as a role model, promotes a supportive culture, and ensures that store staff represent Goodwill in a positive manner by providing excellent customer service at all times both external and internal customers (i.e. coworkers, donors, shoppers).

Ensures compliance with all asset protection policies and procedures; and proper cash handling including enforcement of cash register procedures and submission of required reports. Reports concerns and problems to RDD and Loss Prevention Department.

Responsible for ensuring a culture of safety so all working conditions and procedures are being performed in a safe manner and adheres to all safety guidelines to safeguard the workplace and minimize injuries/accidents. Timely completion and submission of all accident reports. Ensures all hazardous waste procedures are followed. Report any safety concerns to the RDD and Regional Safety Director.

Assists in the development of the annual budget. Effectively and efficiently manage the store budget including maintaining position control, achieving processing goals, generating revenue and controlling expenses. Tracks variances to budget and communicates reasons for variances to RDD.

Supports and promotes organizational programs and special events, as required.

Communicates progress, concerns, and issues to the RDD.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma plus four years of related experience required; 2 years supervisory experience required. For internal applicants, two years supervisory experience job specification may be waived if the internal applicant has either successfully completed the Manager in Training (MIT) Program or successfully completed the following modules of the MIT program: Leadership Development, Finance Retail Literacy, Production and Process Analysis, Safety and Employee Relations.
  • Production/Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Retail environment preferred.
  • POS experience preferred.
  • Proficient in use of computer and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn other technology used in operations as well as financial data analysis.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and communications effectively.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of data and information.
  • Must have valid PA driver's license and reliable transportation to attend trainings, meetings off site and meet obligations of banking and other store related business.
  • Store managers are subject to transfer to other locations within GKA system, according to company needs.
  • Work schedule to include working Saturdays, three (3) out of every four weeks and working evenings as needed to ensure exposure to and staff development/training opportunities for all direct reports.
  • Ability to speak, hear, read, and write and have basic business math skills.
  • Ability to use business equipment such as phone, POS terminals, Charge card terminals, fax, printer/scanner.
  • Ability to stand most of the day.
