About the role

Lead Technician - This position offers a sign-on bonus.

The Covanta Fairless Hills Team is seeking a Lead Technician to support the operations at the Non-Ferrous Metals Plant in Fairless Hills, PA. The lead technician will be responsible for taking assigned tasks from the plant Operations Manager or Shift Supervisor and seeing them through to completion. The successful candidate will assist in leading the operational shift, including morning/afternoon safety and environmental tailgate meetings; determining shift employee readiness for duty; executing the operations plan of the day; and reporting and tracking operational and mechanical issues for corrective follow-up. This role is a field-based lead technician who will train, build, and mentor the team.

Principal Activities and Responsibilities

* Maintains records of plant operations and production during normal and abnormal conditions; reports appropriate production information to the Operations Manager on a timely basis.

* Monitors, trains, and mentors plant personnel regarding plant equipment and materials, safety and operating procedures and standards necessary to ensure safe, efficient and productive operations

* Keeps appropriate personnel on task as required to ensure safe and efficient plant operations

* Leads plant operations in accordance with established policies and procedures

* Maintains and enforces standard Company policies, especially in the area of safety and health

* Initiates emergency procedures when conditions warrant, to ensure safety of personnel and the community and prevent damage to plant and equipment

* Maintains appropriate communication lines with management, peers and subordinates, on an ongoing basis

* Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

* High School Diploma or GED required

* Minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial, plant or military experience; experience in scrap metal operations or energy-from-waste facilities or equivalent demonstrated mechanical system aptitude required; prior leadership experience is desirable

* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Ability and desire to lead others

* Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance

* Strong Mechanical Aptitude

* Drive to meet/exceed production targets

* Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental rules and regulations concerning safety, environmental security and health

* Ability to get along well with people, and work effectively in a team setting

* Ability to solve problems among co-workers

* Ability to monitor, train, and mentor co-workers

* Ability to work in varying conditions of heat, dust, noise, smoke and vibrations

Must be willing to work flexible shifts including day, evening, and overnight hours, as well as occasional weekends, during normal operating hours, scheduled outages, and as necessary to support plant operations.
