We are seeking a skilled and experienced Operational Excellence Mechanical Integrity Engineer within our operational excellence team located at Allentown, PA location. The role will provide technical leadership and governance in the area of mechanical integrity to our regional operating organizations. Travel to the plant sites and engineering offices will be required 25%+/-. Most of the travel being throughout North America and some travel will be to Europe, Middle East, and Asia.

  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, metallurgy, and 3rd party engineering firms to develop inspection strategies for our various businesses, including the use of Risk Based Inspections to develop those strategies.

  • Develop detailed inspection scopes and conduct Fitness For Service (FFS) assessments of inspection results.

  • Candidates should feel comfortable working in a plant environment.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills along with technical knowledge of fixed equipment engineering are required.

  • Support the execution of RBIs and lead the development of inspection strategies for our various assets, including aging plant activities that will become the basis for extended life inspections.

  • Assets supported include Ammonia Production and Storage, Ammonia Dissociation, Gasification, and Hydrogen producing assets via Autothermal Reforming, Electrolysis, Partial Oxidation, and Steam Methane Reforming. This will include:

    • Evaluate the cost of inspection versus equipment maintenance to develop end of life assessment strategies for various assets.

    • Provide technical leadership to the Operating organization for development, execution, and assessment of complex inspection activities.

    • Create inspection scope packages and travel to the field to support execution, as needed.

    • Become a subject matter expert in the use of the FFS software. Champion FFS evaluations for vessel, tank, and piping inspection results using API 579 analysis. When necessary, complete sophisticated FFS assessments.

    • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to the regional operations technical support organizations in option sorting complex repairs that may arise from the inspection activities as well as engineering design calculations. When necessary, be a single point of contact for work with the AP engineering organization and 3rd party engineering contractors to implement design changes to pressure vessels and piping to address issues.

    • Provide technical expertise in pressure systems failure investigations.

    • Identify required mechanical integrity program strategy changes as required.

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Experience with design and/or maintenance of vessels, tanks, and piping.

  • Experience with design and/or maintenance of fixed equipment associated with steam systems (Boilers, Deaerators, and / or steam generation convection coils).

  • Experience with the design, inspection and/or repairs of Fired Heaters or Fixed Equipment in extreme temperature service, such as Steam Methane Reformers (SMR), Autothermal Catalytic Reformers (ATR), or Partial Oxidation (POx).

  • Experience preparing detailed inspection/test procedures used to assess vessels, tanks, piping, and heat exchangers.

  • Risk Based Inspection (RBI) expertise required, API 581 experience preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels within the organization.

  • Strong leadership skills.

Education and Licensing Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree (BS) required with at least 10 years of applicable experience.

  • Fitness For Service (FFS) assessment skills.

  • ASME / API Pressure Vessel, Piping inspection and design knowledge a plus.

  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record required.
