We are lookingfor a General Helperfor ourCamden, New Jerseyfacility.

In your role as a General Helper, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Responsible for inspecting and maintaining Light Rail equipment. Assist Vehicle Technician with repairs, replacing and testing equipment, components and systems related to Light Rail equipment under the direction of the Supervisor of Maintenance or FSE's by performing mechanical, electromechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic activities.

  • Conducting, documenting, and reporting all required daily and undercar inspection on vehicles assigned.
  • Servicing LRVs, including fueling, sanding, washing, and inspecting, as well as assisting in troubleshooting of basic LRV mechanical issues
  • Performing preventive maintenance task on vehicles as assigned
  • The safe operation of LRV for yard and shop moves, including compliance with all signals and speeds.
  • Assist in diagnosing problems and determines the extent of repairs or adjustments needed.
  • Assist in maintains, adjusts, repairs, rebuilds and overhauls operating systems including but not limited to, electrical, charging, fuel, ignition, cooling, air conditioning, heating, and braking.
  • Assist in maintaining, adjusting, repairing, rebuilding and overhauling components.
  • Assist in operating computer aided diagnostic equipment, vehicle testing and/or operating equipment.
  • Assist in repairing and replacing bodies, housings, brackets and accessories using machining tools and equipment.
  • General House Keeping
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED
  • 1 year of technical experience

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically capable to sit/stand for periods up to 2 hours.
  • Must be physically capable of passing DOT physical that includes alcohol & drug testing.
  • Must have the ability to see colors.
  • Must be able to perform heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to (100) pounds on a rare basis.
  • Must be able to stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb and be in a face down position on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to push/pull/grip/carry on a regular basis
  • Walking long distances over uneven terrain
  • Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to work up to a height of (10 feet) from ladder and lifts.
  • Must be able to step up/down a distance of 24 inches on level work surface.
