Job Description
What You Will Do:

Gannett Fleming is seeking an entry level Track Designer to work alongside a strong and growing team on large scale track design, studies, and maintenance assessment assignments in our Washington DC, Baltimore, MD or Valley Forge, PA offices. Successful candidates must have strong initiative to learn and become competent in railroad/transit planning, conceptual, preliminary, detailed design of rail guideways. The position leads into progressive opportunities for advancement and will receive work direction and oversight from more senior engineers.

We provide planning, engineering, program delivery, testing, and commissioning services to the transit, commuter rail, and freight rail industries and our company offers additional opportunities in rail signals, traction power, catenary, transit facilities, and civil and structural infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare track design for rail projects including freight, passenger, commuter, subway and LRT.
  • Design grading and drainage
  • Prepare drawing in support of quantity take offs.
  • Designing special track
  • Developing project specifications
  • Utilize AREMA, FRA, TRCP, or other specified owner specific track & civil standards.
  • Developing familiarity working with LIDAR point clouds to verify and control field survey geographical data to produce design.
  • Experienced in working with CADD design programs including Open Rail, AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Utilize and maintain technical databases and file structures within project files.
  • Work within tight schedules contributing to high performing design team.
  • Communicate design requirements and optioneering to clients and stakeholders.
Education | Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (preferred Civil or Mechanical Engineering).
  • EIT preferred, or ability obtain one in 6 months.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in design and implementation of conventional railway track systems.
  • Academic experience or basic professional experience in calculating roadway or track geometry, grading and drainage.
  • Capable of working across multidisciplined teams both onsite and remotely, with moderate to minimal supervision supporting client deliverables and expectations.
  • AutoCAD Civil3D or Open Rail design experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
