Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor#39;s degree required; Master#39;s degree preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in collegiate athletics administration.

Job Summary

Thomas Jefferson University seeks a seasoned professional to lead its Division II athletic program as the University Director of Athletics. This pivotal role demands a candidate with a proven record of fostering academic excellence and the successful graduation of student-athletes. Responsibilities include overseeing a diverse portfolio of athletic programs, spearheading fundraising efforts, and ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations. The Director will provide leadership to 17 intercollegiate teams, maintain a culture of integrity and academic achievement, and manage scholarship funds. Additionally, they will develop fundraising strategies, cultivate donor relationships, and coordinate events to support the department#39;s financial needs. With a focus on compliance, budget management, and facility oversight, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, financial proficiency, and a commitment to student-athlete development.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

Team Management:

  • Provide leadership to 17 intercollegiate athletic teams, fostering a culture of sportsmanship, integrity, and commitment to academic excellence.
  • Supervise and support coaching staff, ensuring effective recruitment, development, and retention of student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with coaches to create a positive, inclusive, and accountable team environment.
  • Management of scholarship funds for student-athletes
  • Certify all student-athletes are meeting NCAA and University eligibility and academic standards.

Fundraising and Revenue Generation:

  • Support a ldquo;culture of philanthropyrdquo; within the athletics department where development opportunities and initiatives are valued and supported by athletics leadership, coaches, staff, and athletes.
  • In partnership with TJUrsquo;s Office of Institutional Advancement, develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the financial needs of the athletic department.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, alumni, parents, and community partners to deepen engagement with TJU and Athletics.
  • Participate in fundraising events and initiatives to enhance the department#39;s financial resources.
  • Assist in the development of content for the athletic e-newsletter, Hall of Fames updates, or other strategic communications to alumni, donors, and friends of athletics.
  • Provide guidance for allocation of fund raised dollars including unrestricted operational dollars and individual team fundraising accounts.

Compliance and NCAA Regulations:

  • Ensure strict adherence to NCAA rules and regulations by coaches, student-athletes, and staff.
  • Stay abreast of changes in NCAA regulations and proactively implement compliance measures.
  • Collaborate with compliance officers to conduct regular audits and educational programs.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the athletic department budget, allocating resources effectively to meet the needs of each program.
  • Provide financial oversight, monitor expenditures, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.

Facilities and Operations:

  • Oversee the maintenance and use of athletic facilities to ensure a safe and conducive environment for training and competition.
  • Collaborate with facility management to address any maintenance or improvement needs, including interior building needs as well as outdoor fields.
  • A focus on safety, compliance, and accountability related to all athletic facilities.
  • Communicate and coordinate event, game, and practice schedules and share with campus partners.
