How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Compliance Specialist- DOT focuses on ensuring the Region's compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) code, and International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations including driver competency (licensing, qualifications, recordkeeping, CS&A testing, and endorsements), vehicle operations (Federal and State inspections), Special Permits, compliance audits, cylinder requalification, site security, and training with the goal of eliminating accidents and DOT violations within the Region. The Compliance Specialist further provides administrative support to the Operations & Safety Compliance department.
  • Provides DOT expertise to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State requirements regulating the packaging and transportation of hazardous materials. Receives and responds to routine information inquiries from Region associates relative to DOT requirements.

  • Provides training material and personal in-class training to managers/supervisors/drivers for education in maintaining hours of service records (grid logs or 100-mile exemption records), hazardous material shipping paper completion, driver vehicle inspection report (DVIR) completion, site and en route security (HM-232), applicable DOT Special Permits, and DOT hazmat employee (HM-126f) requirements. Ensures controlled substance and alcohol (CS&A) training and testing is executed and documented properly.

  • Maintains and ensures that all Driver Documentation Management (DDM) certifications for drivers are current and on file in the Warner Fleet System database including Driver Qualification file records and other certifications like Smith System training.

  • Performs formal DOT Compliance audits at each DOT-regulated site addressing driver qualification (DQ) files, hours of service (HOS) records, hazardous materials shipping papers including common carrier manifests, vehicle maintenance records, site security, driver training, cargo tank certification and inspections, driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs), driver road tests, and DOT Special Permits.

  • Ensures all Driver Record of Violation and Other Compensated Work forms are completed by drivers each March. Certifies that the Record of Violation conviction information matches each driver's annual Motor Vehicle Record conviction information.

  • Submits challenges for data correction on driver roadside inspections with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) DataQs system when required.

  • Coordinates, administers and ensures Department of Homeland Security (DHS) documentation is properly prepared for facilities affected by DHS requirements.

  • Provides administrative support for: preparation of various monthly and weekly fleet reports, procedures and compliance with policies, maintaining the processing of payments for various operational licenses and permits, maintaining relevant systems and programs in support of licensing and safety, and coordination of meetings.

  • High School Diploma or GED. Associate's degree or higher preferred.

  • A minimum of 2 years of prior demonstrated experience providing DOT compliance administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities in a busy environment.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively present information to associates, top management, and branch personnel..

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various reports, regulations and legal documents.

  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
