Summary:

The Executive Director of Technology - User Experience and Digital Platforms at Temple University will drive the strategic development, management, and enhancement of our web platform, Content Management System, and internal portal. This key leadership role is responsible for shaping and overseeing the university's digital presence, and collaboration technologies, and ensuring an exceptional user experience for students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. Reporting to the Vice President for Information technology, this senior leadership position works in close collaboration with Temple's Strategic Marketing team and all School/College/Unit content developers to create a seamless, innovative, and user-centric online environment that aligns with the university's mission, vision, and strategic goals.

The successful candidate will be a mature self-starter who has demonstrated the ability to function independently in a fast-paced, dynamic and demanding environment. This person needs to be able to resolve conflict within a short period of time. The incumbent will be intellectually curious, intuitive, trustworthy, and have the ability to envision a logical data flow with the best end-user experience in mind. This person will add value by working on a number of simultaneous tasks with minimal supervision and exemplary follow-through.

Working independently or as a team member, the qualified candidate will develop integrated, best-practice technical solutions to support internal and external audiences. The selected candidate will be working in a university setting with exposure to multiple technologies, including Drupal Framework, HTML and CSS. Experience with Symphony, PHP, JSON, AJAX, ASP (VBScript), browser side JavaScript, XML, and Java. Performs other duties as assigned.

* Define and implement the technology strategy for user experience and digital platform development, ensuring alignment with the overall business objectives.

* Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the web platform, CMS, and internal portal, driving continuous improvement and innovation in user experience and performance.

* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, marketing, and engineering, to deliver user-centric digital solutions.

* Establish and communicate a clear vision for the future of web collaboration and user experience.

* Manage the selection, implementation, and optimization of technology tools and platforms to support the web platform, CMS, and internal portal.

* Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the effectiveness and performance of the digital platform.

* Ensure the web platform, CMS, and internal portal adhere to industry best practices, standards, and compliance requirements.

* Lead and mentor a team of technology professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

* Stay up to date with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in web development, user experience, and digital platform management.

* Co-lead our Web Collaboration Center and work closely with the Strategic Marketing team to ensure that university websites align with brand and marketing strategies.

* Promote and ensure compliance with web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) to make digital content inclusive to all users.

* Recruit, mentor, and lead a highly skilled team of web developers, designers, and user experience professionals.

* Oversee the development, maintenance, and optimization of the university's web portal.

* Perform testing and troubleshooting of Portal and Web application issues reported by end users.

* Serve as the accountable individual for Information Technology Services (ITS) web and portal service owner.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 5 years of related experience. Extensive experience in web development, technology user experience, and web portal management. At least 5 years of experience in technology leadership roles, with a focus on user experience and digital platform management. Demonstrated experience with content management systems and knowledge of best practices for content management and delivery. Demonstrated experience as a relationship manager with outside vendors and decentralized units. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

* Must be able to embrace multi-disciplinary team development and be a change agent to encourage a positive team dynamic.

* Proven record of accomplishment of designing and managing successful web platforms, CMS, and internal portals.

* Strong project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and drive continuous improvement.

* Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals.

Preferred:

* Familiarity with higher education information systems, integration techniques, and web architecture and technology are preferred.

* Experience with enterprise Portal and Web technologies and programming using solutions such as LifeRay Portal, and Drupal Framework.

* Master's degree or certifications

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
