Overview

Function as an independent nurse clinician in coordinating ante partum fetal testing for high risk patients to include the performance, interpretation, and reporting of test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care. Provides education for staff and community and assists with research programs.

Responsibilities

Perform ante partum fetal testing to include non-stress testing and contraction stress testing.

Determine the technical adequacy of each test and independently assesses appropriateness of each patient's testing based on established policies and protocols.

Recognize normal versus abnormal results; prepares accurate, readable report of the test; contact physician when necessary.

Correlate the patient's clinical history with fetal monitoring results and recognized signs and symptoms of maternal/fetal compromise. Institute appropriate nursing actions for referral.

Assess health education needs of patient to provide ongoing evaluation of necessary instructions.

Provide a holistic approach in the care of all patients.

Coordinate additional care for ante partum patients to include follow-up testing or procedures, scheduling, physician's orders, and hospital admissions.

Maintain daily fetal testing schedule, testing forms, statistics, documentation, and collaboration with other health care providers to formulate a plan of care for the patient.

Assist with and maintain ongoing knowledge of billing and insurance protocols.

Verify lab results within 48 hours in accordance with the lab verification policy.

Maintain supply inventory and equipment for fetal monitoring and ultrasound to ensure availability for testing and regular daily activities.

Provide education to other staff members regarding testing and care of high risk patients, act as a resource on ante partum fetal testing for the community and Outreach Programs, to include Women's Health Pavilion.

Actively participate in research through data collection and development of ideas.

Serve as public relations representative to the community.

Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care which includes validation of skill level by passing both verbal and written tests administered by Supervisor.

Promote the philosophy, goals and objectives of the School and the Department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures.

Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude, and behavior towards co-workers, patients, and guests.

Sustain the quality assurance of patient charts.

Monitors clinical supply levels and inventory for the entire facility and place orders as needed.

Performs venipuncture as needed.

Completes patient's FMLA and disability forms.

Maintains MIPS requirements for Advancing Care Information as assigned for the MFM Division which includes Health Information Exchange (promoting patient portal), patient specific education, and medication reconciliation.

Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred. Minimum one year clinical experience with high risk obstetric patients and fetal monitoring is preferred. Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
